Paul is a litigator specialising in complex large scale commercial and corporate litigation and class actions. He acts for major corporates and board directors.
Paul acted for ASIC in civil penalty proceedings against ANZ under the Corporations Act and ASIC Act for alleged market manipulation, unconscionable conduct, misleading and deceptive conduct and breach of licence. The BBSW is the primary interest rate benchmark used in Australian financial markets (described as the Australian equivalent to LIBOR). The proceedings resolved immediately before the hearing with ANZ, amongst other things, required to pay a pecuniary penalty.
Paul also has specialist experience representing high profile board directors and senior executives in a range of regulatory investigations and prosecutions by ASIC, AFP and CDPP, and in related liquidators claims and civil proceedings, including class actions. Paul has acted for directors and executives of Allco Funds Management Ltd, ABC Childcare, Leightons Holdings Ltd, Hastie Group Limited, Mariner Corporation Limited and Arrium Limited.
Paul also has a specialist focus in dealing with funded litigation.

Acting for PPB Advisory as the liquidators of QC Resource Investments Pty Ltd in funded proceedings against the former Managing Director for loss and damage flowing from various breaches of duty to the company.
Successfully defended a ‘bet the farm’ case. Engaged by US Counsel for Metagenics, Inc. in relation to Brisbane based Federal Court Proceedings and a subsequent appeal to the Full Federal Court. The claim related to the sale of the Australian business to Metagenics, Inc. and to disputes concerning the valuation and payment of sale proceeds. The applicants sought to rescind the sale of the Australian business and ‘de merge’ that company or alternatively seek damages of $175 million plus.
Acted for a number of former directors and officers of Tamaya Resources Ltd in multiple sets of Federal Court proceedings including shareholder class actions relating to the purchase and operation of the Lichkvoz gold mine in Armenia and a copper mine in Chile.
Defending class action proceedings in the Supreme Court of New South Wales concerning alleged misrepresentations about fund investments.
