Dean is an experienced commercial litigator with particular expertise in complex contractual disputes related to competition and consumer law.
He acts for corporations in a range of industries as well as Government departments and authorities.
Dean has successfully conducted proceedings in various State Courts, the Federal Court, the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal and other specialist tribunals. He has particular interest and experience in matters involving administrative law (merits and judicial review), professional negligence claims, and disputes relating to trusts and estates.
Represented Government and corporate clients from various industry groups including manufacturing, energy, telecommunications, construction, primary industry, technology and professional services in commercial disputes arising from breach and termination of contracts, warranty claims, misrepresentation and unconscionable conduct.
Represented the ACCC, corporations and individuals in relation to various ACCC investigations and enforcement proceedings, and also private litigation, involving alleged contraventions of the anti-competitive conduct and consumer protection provisions of Competition and Consumer Act.
Acted for and against Government departments, agencies and statutory authorities in proceedings involving both merits and judicial review of administrative decisions, and advised in relation to the exercise of statutory powers, collection and disclosure of information, questions of Commonwealth – State jurisdiction, and statutory interpretation.
Acted for professional services firms, including accountants, corporate advisers, lawyers and engineers (and their insurers) in the defence of professional negligence actions and allegations of misleading and deceptive conduct.
