Meet our new partners in 2016

The JWS team has expanded in 2016 with the addition of four experienced partners across the areas of litigation/competition, projects/construction, employment, and construction/infrastructure.

Commercial litigation and competition lawyer Tom Jarvis has joined the firm as a partner in the Melbourne office. Characterised by Asia Pacific Legal 500 as “one of Australia’s leading litigators”, he has over 25 years’ experience acting in commercial and civil disputes, with a keen appreciation of political and cultural sensitivities and reputational risk.

“I am excited and energised by the opportunity to join such a strongly independent and highly regarded Australian firm and in particular by the depth, experience and geographic spread of the JWS dispute resolution practice,” Jarvis commented.

Stephen Byrne has joined the firm as a partner based in the Sydney office, and has become a key member of the firm’s projects and construction practice. He specialises in the contracts, project structures, financing, and regulation associated with urban and regional infrastructure, process plants, and the energy & resources sectors.

Highly regarded employment lawyer, Lucienne Mummé, has also joined the firm as a partner in the Melbourne office. Luci has has significant experience in both the private and public sectors and regularly advises clients in the areas of disputes, award and enterprise agreement interpretation, disciplinary and performance management processes, the management of discrimination complaints, executive employment and termination.

Will Coulthard, a construction and infrastructure lawyer specialising in/focusing on energy and resources and public infrastructure, brings his experience in some of Australia’s largest energy and resource projects. He advises principals and contractors in relation to all aspects of projects, including the drafting, tendering, negotiations, administration and dispute resolution associated of construction and infrastructure contracts.

Johnson Winter & Slattery's Managing Partner, Peter Slattery, said partners were delighted with the knowledge and expertise that the new additions will bring to the firm.

“The recruitment of Stephen is consistent with our strategy to develop a national projects and construction capability and deepen our credentials to vie for construction projects and disputes,” he said. “Luci is recognised as a preeminent employment expert, with particular experience in workplace change projects including restructuring, outsourcing, downsizing, and enterprise bargaining strategy including responses to industrial action. And the addition of Will to the firm supports our goal of developing a national construction capability and broadens our expertise when pitching for high-profile infrastructure and energy matters."
